Training Programme on Disaster Management at ASBM, BBSR, by OSDMA

A two-day Capacity Building of Students on disaster management has been organized at ASBM, BBSR, by Odisha State Disaster Management Authority, to introduce students to the basics of disaster preparedness and responding to disasters and relaying on their own resources to protect and care during emergencies. The inauguration ceremony was graced by, Chief Guest,  Shri A. K. Nayak, General Manager, OSDMA, Guest of Honour Shri Arabinda Mishra, Chief General Manager, Finance, OSDMA, Director,  ASBM Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattnayak and Co-ordinator of the workshop Prof. (Dr.) Sibananda Mishra.

Guest of Honour Shri Arabinda Mishra focused on training the young mass, (the youth) of the young country, India. Chief Guest, Shri A. K. Nayak, discussed skill building for youth on disaster management in-detail. Prof. (Dr.) Biswajeet Pattnayak stressed on the issue of managing disaster and emergencies specifically for our state, Odisha, being geographically disaster prone zone. He also proposed disaster management as an inclusion in the area of management studies.

The two-day training Programme on disaster management by OSDMA for students covered general awareness, vulnerability and disaster management, vulnerability profile of the state Odisha, personal preparedness and disaster survival, basic first aid and light search and rescue under the guidance of Shri A. K. Nayak, GM, OSDMA and Shri P. K. Nayak , DGM (Training), ODRAF. Various ways of disaster preparedness and basic first–aid were being exhibited by the ODRAF instructors and the same was practised by the students. Hundred students of ASBM and ASBM Institute of Professional Studies participated in the training Programme. All trainees were provided with completion certificate Shri P. K. Nayak, DGM of OSDMA. The training Programme was co-ordinated by Prof. Sibananda Mishra, Prof. Saswati Tripathy and Prof. Nihar Ranjan Agasti.
