“Arise, awake, and stop not till the goal is reached”, famously said Swami Vivekananda. These inspirational words, based on a verse (shlok) from the Katha Upanishad, sum up the philosophy behind ASBM University.
The University started its successful journey in the year 2006 as a stand-alone business school by the name, ‘Asian School of Business Management’ (ASBM). Founded by Prof. Biswajeet Pattanayak, a former Professor of IIM Lucknow and IIM Indore, the school was established in a record time of six months. This apparently impossible feat was made possible because of the dogged determination, innovative planning, meticulous project management, and a quest for quality that characterise its founder Prof. Pattanayak. ASBM was inaugurated by the then Hon’ble Vice-President of India His Excellency Shri Bhairon Singh Sekhawat with the words, ‘a new sunrise in management education‘. It was highlighted by Business India in its October, 2006 special issue as ‘a world-class business school modelled after the best IIMs set up in 180 days’.
ASBM as a business school was awarded national accreditation by NBA, regional accreditation under SAQS, and global accreditation by ACBSP, USA. The ultimate reward came in 2019 when the Government of Odisha converted the B-School into a university by an Act of the State Legislature. The very fact that a stand-alone business school could become a full-fledged university within a short span of 13 years speaks volumes about its quality parameters and the quest for excellence.
ASBM University follows the legacy of innovation and excellence of the erstwhile B-School and is being developed as a model institution with state-of-the-art teaching-learning and research facilities in a natural green environment. We at ASBM University believe in “Rewriting the Mantra of Excellence.” What makes the University stand apart is that it does not impart teaching, rather it focuses on the holistic development of its students and making them realise their full potential.
Evolving from a stand-alone B-School, ASBM is now a multi-faceted university offering a wide range of programmes at graduate, post-graduate, and doctoral levels through five Schools in the domains of Management, Liberal Arts, Commerce and Accountancy, Law, Information Science, Economics, English, and Communication.
