Dr. Sudhansu Sekhar Rath

Prof. Sudhansu Sekhar Rath is a distinguished economist with 37 years of academic experience at Sambalpur University. He holds the distinction of being the Founding Vice-Chancellor of Gangadhar Meher University at Sambalpur (Odisha). He also served as an Hon’ble Member of the Odisha Public Service Commission.
He has held a gamut of academic administration positions, such as Registrar, Member of the Syndicate, Head of the Department of Economics, Director of Distance and Continuing Education (DDCE), Dean of Social Sciences, Director of Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC), Member of the Academic Council, Member of the Board of Studies, and Ombudsperson.
Prof. Rath is an acclaimed researcher and has published 49 research papers in reputed international and national journals. He has presented research papers at more than 50 international and national conferences. He has successfully guided two research scholars for the award of the D.Lit. degree and 18 scholars for the Ph.D. degree.
Dr. Rath was the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Humanities and Social Sciences published by Sambalpur University. He has edited two books – ‘Agrarian Transformation in Odisha’ and ‘Odisha State Finances’ – published by the Department of Economics of Sambalpur University under the DRS scheme. He was also a Member of the Editorial Board of Poverty and Human Development Monitoring Agency (PHDMA), Planning & Convergence Department of the Government of Odisha. He has authored reading materials in Public Economics for the Master’s programme of the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), New Delhi.

He has contributed articles to various encyclopaedias, such as the Encyclopaedia of World Poverty (a Sage publication), the Encyclopaedia of Organised Crime, the Encyclopaedia of American Science, the World History Encyclopaedia, and the Encyclopaedia of Modern Slavery. He regularly writes for popular magazines and newspapers.
Prof. Rath has successfully completed two research projects – one sponsored by the National Institute of Public Finance and Policy & World Bank, and the other by the Centre for Youth and Social Development (CYSD). He has also undertaken consultancy assignments for the 13th Finance Commission, the Indian Institute of Public Administration, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Centre for Multi-Disciplinary Development Research (CMDR – Dharwad, Karnataka), Rajiv Gandhi University (Arunachal Pradesh), and CYSD (Odisha).
