Prof. Jyotirmaya Mahapatra retired from active service as the Vice-Chancellor of AIPH University with more than four decades of rich and varied experience. He did M.S. in Business Administration from State University, Fort Hays, KANSAS, USA and Ph.D in Management from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra.
He has a unique experience of both industry and academics which helped him grow as a management scientist. He started his career with Coal India Limited as a Management Trainee in 1976 and served for 17 years in various capacities and went on to head the HRD department. During that period, he also served as an adjunct faculty at BIT, Mesra and Xavier Institute, Ranchi because of his love for academics.
His passion called him to academics and he joined Sambalpur University as the Founder Professor and Head of the Department of Business Administration in 1993. He served there 16 years during which he worked as the Chairman of the P.G. Council, and also as Chairman of the Regulation Committee, Equivalence committee, and Board of Studies. He was also the Director of the University Guidance and Information Bureau and a Member of the University Syndicate. Subsequently, he served as the Centre Head of ICFAI University, the Dean (Management) of Bharatiya Vidya Bhawan, the Dean of the Faculty of Management Sciences of Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University, the Dean of the Faculty of Management of Sri Sri University, and the Vice Chancellor of AIPH University.
As an avid researcher, Prof. Mahapatra has published about 70 widely acclaimed research papers in national and international journals. He has also guided 14 PhD scholars and has authored 4 books. He has intensively conducted MDPs and rendered consultancy to the corporate houses like OMFED, LIC of India, Orissa Sponge Iron, HINDALCO, Coal India etc. He has been a Visiting Professor to the leading Business Schools and University Management Departments in India and abroad. He is also in the panel of Experts of AICTE, UGC, UPSC etc.
